The Fellowship program was created to recognize outstanding graduate students doing exceptional and innovative research in areas relevant to computer science and related fields. Google’s mission aims at fostering inclusive research communities and also encourages people of diverse backgrounds to apply. Google currently offer Fellowships in several continents and countries of the world.
Eligibility Criteria For Google Ph.D. Research Fellowship
To be eligible for the Google Ph.D. Research Fellowship 2022 for International Students, applicants are to meet the following criteria:
Nominated students in Australia and New Zealand, East Asia, Europe, the United States, and Canada

- Universities should only nominate students that are full-time graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. and enrolled in an institution in one of the regions listed above.
- Universities are to nominate applicants who have completed their coursework by the Fall of the award year when the fellowship begins. Usually the third year for US and Canadian
- Students must remain enrolled full-time in the Ph.D. program for the duration of the Fellowship or forfeit the award.
- Google employees, and their spouses, children, and members of their household are not eligible.
- Students already supported by a comparable industry award are not eligible.
Direct Applicant Students in Africa and India
- Applicants must be full-time graduate students pursuing a Ph.D. and enrolled in an African or Indian institution.
- Early-stage Ph.D. students enrolled one year or less.
- Applicants who are currently in their first year of a part-time Ph.D. program and transferring to full-time positions.

United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, East Asia, Southeast Asia, Africa, and India.

Africa
- Up to 3-year Fellowship of US $30K to cover stipend and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel
- Google Research Mentor
Australia and New Zealand
- AUD $10K to cover stipend and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel
- Google Research Mentor
East Asia
- US $10K to cover stipend and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel
- Google Research Mentor
Europe
- Up to 3-year Fellowship of yearly bursary towards stipend/salary, health care, social benefits, tuition and fees, conference travel, and personal computing equipment. The bursary varies by country.

India
Early-stage Ph.D. students
- Up to 4-year Fellowship of US $50K to cover stipend and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel
- Google Research Mentor
Late-stage Ph.D. students
- 1-year Fellowship
- US $10K to recognize research contributions, cover stipend, and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel

Southeast Asia
- Up to 3-year Fellowship
- The US $10K per year for up to 3 years (or up to graduation, whichever is earlier) to cover stipend and other research-related activities, travel expenses including overseas travel
