The competition comes with an award of N100,000 cash award plus a personal laptop and three more laptops for the school whose student has selected the best essay.

Dr Mike Okonkwo Essay Competition was initiated in the year 2004, as part of activities to celebrate the Birthday of the Presiding Bishop of TREM, Dr. Mike Okonkwo (MFR) and more importantly to contribute to the development of the Educational Sector. Dr. Mike Okonkwo is the Presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) a.k.a. Power in the Word with over 200 branches in Nigeria and across the globe. He is an Apostle to this generation, whose life has impacted millions around the world.

Entries are invited from secondary school students in Nigeria for the 17th edition of the Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition.

The annual competition with this year’s edition being 17th in the series has been organised to mark the birthday anniversary of the presiding Bishop of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM), Dr Mike Okonkwo, and as a way of contributing to the development of the education sector and the economy by extension. And just like the previous editions, the competition is voluntary and free of charge to willing students from any government-approved secondary schools nationwide.

Requirements for Mike Okonkwo National Essay Competition:

  • Maximum of 2000 words
  • Name of student, class, e-mail, contact phone number, and his/her recent passport photograph
  • Name of school and detailed address (including Name of Principal and phone number)
  • The essay should be clearly typed

Duration and Reward

  • 1st Position:
    1. N100,000 + Laptop (Student)
    2. 3 sets of PC (School).
  • 2nd Position:
    1. N75,000 (Student)
    2. 2 set of PC (School).
  • 3rd Position:
    1. N50,000 (Student)
    2. A set of PC (School).
