The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) proudly presents the National Undergraduate Essay Competition, aimed at fostering the Nigerian Content (NC) initiative. This exciting initiative seeks to inspire and educate Nigeria’s future leaders on the importance of building local capacity in the oil and gas industry.
By participating in this competition, undergraduate students across Nigeria will gain valuable insights into the sector’s vast opportunities and challenges, while developing innovative solutions to drive growth and sustainability.
The 2024 Essay Topic is: NIGERIAN CONTENT AND OPPORTUNITIES IN AFRICAN LOCAL CONTENT ADVANCEMENT
The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) was established in 2010 by the Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Content Development (NOGICD) Act. NCDMB is vested with the mandate to make procedures that will guide, monitor, coordinate and implement the provisions of the NOGICD Act signed into law on April 22, 2010.
The foundation for NCDMB was laid in 2001 when former President Olusegun Obasanjo inaugurated the Presidential Committee on Local Content in the Oil and Gas Industry.

Requirements
To be considered for the competitions, you must meet the following conditions:
- This contest is open only to 100-200 level students in public and private Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria – Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.
- The competition opens on the 16th of September 2024. Completed manuscripts and accompanying documents must be submitted to www.ncdmbessay.ng on or before 14th October, 2024.
- Late manuscripts will not be considered. Hardcopy submissions will not be accepted. (REGISTER ON WEBSITE FIRST).
- Entrants must submit either a letter of admission or a signed letter of attestation from his/her Head of Department (HOD). VIEW AND DOWNLOAD.
- All essays must be original works specifically written for the competition.
Reward
Prizes will be awarded as follows:
- N1,000,000 for 1st place,
- N700,000 for 2nd place,
- N500,000 for 3rd and
- All top 10 national finalists shall each receive a laptop
- The winning essay will be published in the NCDMB’s in-house magazine, Local Content Digest.
How to Apply
Essays will be judged based on:
- Clarity of Expression,
- Spelling and Grammar,
- Originality of thought,
- Depth of Analysis,
- Relevance to Industry, and
- Conformity to Contest Rules.
All essays will be subjected to plagiarism check (software application) to determine originality.
The award/prize giving ceremony comes up 14th November, 2024
