back to menu ↑Eligibility Criteria for Jim Ovia Scholarship
The Jim Ovia Scholars program is accessible to Nigerian residents and citizens enrolled as full-time undergraduate university or college candidates. Graduate students pursuing their Masters and PhDs are also eligible for the Jim Ovia Scholars program. For both undergraduate and graduate students who apply, their tuition and living expenses for the duration of their programs will be covered.
Each year, 100 prize recipients are chosen from a pool of qualified candidates. Scholarships are given based on an applicant’s academic prowess, leadership potential, and willingness to advance society at large and better the lives of others.

The Jim Ovia scholarship provides recipients with an annual scholarship fund of 150,000 Nigerian Naira, renewable for the full term of the recipient’s academic career. Please be aware that awards do not always automatically renew each year. Students who have received the Jim Ovia Scholarship in the previous year must submit a renewal application online. All qualified applicants who reapply and complete the requirements for a renewal scholarship will be awarded again.

a) A filled-out online application
b) A current government identification document, such as a driver’s licence, voter’s card, or international passport.
Please be aware that a birth certificate or certificate of origin will not be recognized as a legitimate form of identification. Only minors under the age of 18 who are unable to apply for a government ID will be exempt from this rule. In that case, for such minors, a birth certificate will be accepted in place of a government ID.
c) A formal, original letter from your school or head of department that is not a photocopy and states the following:
- Complete name
- Course Title
- Department of Study
- CGPA
- Gender
- Admissions number
OR
- A provisional admission letter must be presented to your institution of higher learning by newly matriculated students who have not yet been issued a matriculation number or school ID.
Original secondary school transcript (WAEC or NECO)
e) The original JAMB certificate of results
f) A current student ID from your host university or college.
g) A photo in a passport
