Eligibility Criteria
Applicants are expected to meet the following conditions for the British Army Recruitment:
British Citizen: As a British Citizen, British Overseas Territory Citizen, British Overseas Citizen, British Subject, British National (Overseas) citizen and British Protect Person, you’re able to apply to join the Army.
Irish Citizen: As an Irish Citizen, you can apply to join the regular Army. If you’re hoping to join the Army Reserve, you need to be already living in the UK.

Refugee or asylum seeker: Unfortunately, you are not able to join the British Army.
Commonwealth: Commonwealth soldiers are, and always will be, an important and valued part of the fabric of the British Army.
Available Roles
Only applicants that apply for ‘available roles’ will be considered, so you must be applying for one of the following:
- Musician
- Royal Electrical
- Mechanical Engineering roles
- Royal Engineers Technician and Tradesman roles
- Paratrooper
How to work out ALIS score
Add up the value of your top 7 results from the following:
- 8 points for: GCSE A*/9, BTEC (level 2) Distinction*
- 7.5 points for: GCSE Low A* – High A/8
- 7 points for: GCSE A/7, NAT (level 5) A, BTEC (level 2) Distinction
- 6 points for: GCSE B/6, NAT (level 5) B, BTEC (level 2) Merit
- 5 points for: GCSE C/4&5, NAT (level 5) C, BTEC (level 2) Pass
- 4 points for: GCSE D/3, NAT (level 5) D, NAT (level 4)
Soldier to Officer
GCSE passes or equivalent in 5 subjects, including English Language and Mathematics at Grade C/4 (or above) or the nationally recognised equivalent. If you do not meet this criterion you will undergo an assessment at the Army School of Education, Worthy Down, before being recommended for the selection process.
How to Apply
Before you start your Army application, you need to check that you meet the nationality requirements to join the British Army.
Applications MUST be linked to the Recruit Bounty Referral Scheme. Any Applications that are submitted outside of the Recruit Bounty Scheme will be rejected, except for those applying as a musician.
