Chinua Achebe’s Daughter, Maureen wins award at Harvard Medical School

Maureen Okam-Achebe, the accomplished daughter of the renowned Nigerian novelist, the late Chinua Achebe, has been honoured with a distinguished award at Harvard Medical School in Massachusetts, USA. She received the prestigious 2024 Brigham and Women’s Hospital Faculty Development and Diversity Award, recognizing her exceptional achievements in clinical care, research, education, and community service.
Maureen’s impressive background in Haematology and medical oncology includes a medical degree from the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria, followed by specialized training at Yale School of Medicine. She also holds a master’s degree in public health from Harvard’s Chan School of Public Health.

Currently, Maureen serves as an associate professor at Harvard Medical School, director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Outpatient Infusion Center, clinical director of the Non-Malignant Haematology Clinic, director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Sickle Cell program, and instructor in medicine at Harvard Medical School.
Her brother shared the news, congratulating her on this remarkable achievement, which acknowledges her dedication and excellence in her field. This award is a testament to Maureen’s hard work and commitment to making a positive impact in the medical community.
