INK is the UK’s leading producer of original short plays. To date, at our annual Festival in Halesworth, we have produced over 300 new plays for stage and radio by first time as well as by experienced playwrights aged 8 to 80.

We are now producing over 50 short plays a year, using professional actors, directors, and crew. A selection of the best plays are subsequently chosen to tour East Anglia and London.
The 7th INK Festival takes place on April 13th – 16th 2023. As well as plays it showcases poetry, art, workshops, and industry talks.
Our mission is to inspire. We accept submissions over the summer from everyone regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. There are no rules except that plays should be between 1 and 20 mins, unless stated otherwise.
Open to anyone resident in the UK and Ireland, and to UK and Irish nationals living abroad.
Entries must be new writing or never professionally performed in the UK

A short play of up to 20 minutes on any topic which could utilize technology to create a wow factor.
Environmental Play – “Rising Waters”
A short play of up to 20 minutes on the 1953 Great Flood and/or future floods.
Physical Play – “Run Wild”
A short play of up to 20 minutes, which should include an opportunity for physical theatre.
Youth Play (Writer must be 18 & under) – “A.I”
A short play of up to 10 minutes about artificial intelligence for no more than 3 actors.
Radio Play
A radio play of 44 minutes (approx. 8500 words) on any topic. Please submit just a few sample pages of the script and 250 words about the play and yourself as a writer.
Radio Comedy
A radio comedy of up to 20 minutes.
Musical
A short play of up to 45 minutes with songs. Please submit a few sample pages of the script and attach 3 selected songs as an MP3 file.
