The Iowa State University Master’s Scholarship is an assistantship under the guidance of Dr. Adam Janke at Iowa State University.

Dr. Adam Janke is inviting applications for an M.S. graduate assistantship to participate in a collaborative research project. This project will assess the impact of cattle grazing on bird populations and their habitats in Conservation Reserve Program Grasslands in Iowa. The project, funded by the Farm Services Agency, will begin in the summer of 2025 and take place on private farms throughout Iowa.

  • have a Bachelor’s degree in wildlife ecology or a closely related field.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and excellent communication skills.
  • Applicants with experience and skills in bird survey methodologies, working with agricultural producers or on private lands, plant identification skills, and quantitative analysis skills will be most competitive.
  • Applicants should have an undergraduate and graduate GPA ≥3.0 and a valid driver’s license (or ability to get one).
  • Applicants from underrepresented or historically excluded groups are encouraged to apply.


  • The Iowa State University Masters Scholarship recipient will be supported by a combined teaching and research assistantship that provides a $28,800 per year stipend, health insurance, and a 75% tuition waiver for each semester of enrollment.
  • Applicants are sought to commence their studies at Iowa State University in the Fall of 2024, but those seeking a later start date on or before May 2025 may be considered.
