John Soneye, a brilliant man from Nigeria, recently graduated with a first-class degree in Engineering from the University of Hertfordshire in the United Kingdom. His achievement is remarkable because he faced homelessness and financial challenges along the way.
John’s path wasn’t easy. At 14, he left Greece and moved to the UK. Without his parents’ support, he had to fend for himself. At 16, he lived with his 21-year-old brother, but they both ended up homeless and jobless by the time John turned 17.

Despite these hardships, John persevered. He didn’t initially qualify for his desired degree program due to low grades, so he enrolled in a Foundation Year. Unfortunately, family problems forced him to drop out in 2011. But he stayed focused and determined.
John worked full-time and returned to university the next year. He finally gained admission to study Aerospace Systems Engineering. Despite the stress of coursework, exams, deadlines, projects, and a dissertation, he achieved his goal: a First Class Honours Degree.
He credits God, his family, and friends for their support. Now, John looks forward to a bright future in Project Management, Consulting, and Engineering. His story reminds us that determination and hard work can overcome any obstacle!
