The Central European University in Austria is offering fully funded CEU Masters Scholarships to European and international students seeking graduate studies in Europe.
The CEU Masters Scholarship is a one-year program in international Historical Studies.
The one-year MA in Historical Studies allows you to anchor your own research project in a specific research field, while offering a broad range of courses across historical periods and approaches to the past.

Eligibility Criteria for Central European University Scholarship 2025
To be considered for the Central European University Scholarship, you must:
- have a first degree (bachelor’s or equivalent undergraduate degree) from a recognized university or institution of higher education or
- provide documentation indicating that they will earn such a first degree before enrollment in a CEU master’s program.
Students enrolled in a master’s program at CEU must not be simultaneously enrolled in another higher education institution, unless they provide official documentation about having obtained a leave of absence from the other institution for the entire duration of their studies at CEU.
Benefits
- Students can apply for CEU merit-based financial aid regardless of nationality. CEU also offer a fully-funded merit scholarship in our one-year MA in Historical Studies
- The Gerd Bucerius History Scholarship, and the Bak Award for students working on medieval Central Europe.
Required Documents
In addition to meeting the general CEU admissions requirements, applicants must provide:
- A brief, supplementary statement of purpose that explains the applicant’s interest in the Department of Historical Studies.
- A 500-word research proposal for the MA thesis
