Munster Technological University (MTU) is pleased to offer 20 fully funded PhD scholarships through our innovative TU RISE Scholarship Programme.
The Munster Technological University Scholarships are funded for PhD research in several fields available at the institution for the 2025-2028 academic sessions.
In January 2024, MTU received a remarkable €14.6m to propel her strategic goals in Research and Innovation. The university is proud to boast the largest scale R&I expenditure in Ireland’s TU sector, totalling €30m, alongside the highest direct-funded research income from industry partnerships.

Eligibility Criteria for TU RISE Scholarship Programme 2025
To be considered for the TU RISE Scholarship Programme, you must have:
- Achieved at least a second-class higher level (2H1) classification or equivalent in an appropriate discipline area relevant to the research field (e.g. Sound & Music, Computer Science, Engineering, Multimedia, Digital Art) from a recognised degree awarding body OR possess a Master’s Degree in an appropriate discipline area relevant to the research field from a recognised degree awarding body.
- Ability to self-direct but also collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Excellent written and communication skills.
- They should have an interest in and an aptitude for (e.g. laboratory–based research or insert topic specific relevant to the PhD project).
Benefits
- Funding: Tax-free scholarship that covers University PhD fees (EU or non-EU) and includes a generous stipend of €25,000 per annumfor 4 years.
- Duration: Funding commences on 1st January 2025 and concludes on 31st December 2028.
- Start Date: Candidates must be available to commence their PhD studies by 1st January 2025.
Required Documents
To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;
- A minimum of two recommendation letters and/or contact information for referees.
- Resume/Curriculum Vitae (CV), including:
- Education History
- Relevant skills
- Artworks, Performances, Exhibitions
- Research projects/publications
- A cover letter (2-pages max) including a description of the applicant’s research interests, reasons for applying for the position. The Cover letter must clearly indicate how the applicant’s profile and skills fit the requirements of this PhD position.
- Scanned copies of relevant academic transcripts and English language certificates.
