WACSI Next Generation Internship Program | Application Guide
The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) invites young graduates and early-career professionals from Nigeria, Senegal, and Cape Verde to apply for its Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP).
This six-month program is designed to nurture the next generation of African leaders by offering hands-on experience in WACSI’s key focus areas: Capacity Development, Policy Influencing and Advocacy, and Knowledge Management. Interns will actively engage in WACSI’s activities, boosting their civic awareness and professional skills to address key development challenges in West Africa.
Recognizing the need for structured practical capacity-building for young West Africans, WACSI launched the Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP) in January 2008. The program targets fresh graduates and early-career professionals from West Africa, offering them valuable work experience in WACSI’s core areas.

Over the six-month period, interns will be fully immersed in WACSI’s operations, gaining skills in leadership, program management, knowledge management, and tackling critical development issues facing the region.

Requirements for WACSI Next Generation Internship Program
- WACSI is therefore seeking interns from Nigeria, Senegal and Cape Verde interested in enhancing their civic consciousness and developing their professional capacity. They will be embedded in WACSI’s core areas of work i.e. Capacity Development, Policy Influencing and Advocacy, and Knowledge Management.
- Applicants must have a minimum of a first degree in international affairs, political science, public policy, law, development studies, or related fields.
- Applicants should also show an interest in civil society and non-profit organization management.
Benefits of WACSI Next Generation Internship Program
- This is a fully funded internship by WACSI. The institute will support interns fully with a flight to and from their home country, furnished accommodation, lunch during working days for the duration of the internship, and a monthly stipend.
Please note:
- Preference will be given to applicants with high proficiency in English, French or Portuguese and a working knowledge of one other.
- The successful intern will spend a substantial part of her/his internship working at the WACSI office in Accra, Ghana.
- The internship period is from January to June 2025. Interns who are unable to complete the six-months internship will refund the total cost of the internship package to WACSI.
