At just 17, Kelli Higgins has distinguished herself as the valedictorian of Jackson High School, boasting a perfect 4.00 GPA. Her academic prowess has secured her offers from four prestigious Ivy League institutions: Harvard University, Yale University, Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania
Kelli’s exceptional 4.57 cumulative GPA led to her recognition as the top graduate of Benicia High School in Benicia, USA. Her academic journey took an exciting turn in December when Harvard University extended her an early acceptance. This joy was multiplied on National Ivy Day, as reported by Mlive, when she learned of her acceptance into three additional Ivy League schools.
The Ivy League, a consortium of eight elite private universities in the USA, is renowned for its rigorous academic standards, esteemed reputation, and highly competitive admissions.
On National Ivy Day, Kelli received the thrilling news of her acceptances to Yale University, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania. Reflecting on her college selection process, she shared, “It was an extensive journey to pinpoint what I sought in my higher education.”

In her decision-making, Kelli carefully considered the dormitory environments and the cultural vibe of each university’s locale. Her experiences at Harvard and Yale’s summer programs, along with online courses at Columbia, provided her with valuable insights. A subsequent visit to Harvard in April proved pivotal, solidifying her choice to pursue her bachelor’s degree there.
“I was able to immerse myself in the school’s myriad opportunities, get a feel for the living arrangements, and even sit in on classes with a host. That’s when I realized Harvard was my ideal destination,” she expressed.
Among approximately 8,000 early candidates, Kelli was one of the 692 students admitted to Harvard’s Class of 2028.
“To be counted among the few Jackson natives to gain entry into multiple Ivies, especially as a woman of color, is an incredibly uplifting milestone in my life,” she remarked.
Inspired by influential Black women like Michelle Obama, Kelli is proud to potentially serve as a beacon for the next generation. “It’s profoundly gratifying. To emulate Michelle Obama’s success and to envision myself inspiring other young Black women and scholars is deeply meaningful,” she conveyed.
Kelli credits her achievements to her dedication to academics and extracurriculars at Jackson High. Her involvement in community partnerships, youth advocacy groups, over ten AP classes, student government, the school newspaper, and the City of Jackson’s Youth Council have all shaped her journey. She looks forward to studying Government at Harvard University in Massachusetts later this year.
