The Brookings Internship Program is designed to offer a pre-professional and practical work experience tailored to your field of study or career interests.
Whether you have a passion for research, administrative tasks, communications, or more, Brookings provides a platform for meaningful engagement.
Internships at a Glance
- Compensation: All Brookings interns receive compensation, either directly from Brookings or through external partnerships established in advance.
- Duration: Internships typically last for 12 weeks and can be either hybrid (requiring at least one day in the DC Metropolitan area) or fully remote.
- Location: Interns must be physically located in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internship. Remote work is not available in certain states.

- Current undergraduate and graduate students.
- Individuals of any background and level of experience.
- International students with a visa status sponsored by their college or university or those authorized to work in the U.S.
Note: To maximize opportunities, current or previous interns are not eligible to intern again.
Application & Selection Process
To be considered, all applications must be submitted before the posted deadline. Complete applications include a cover letter, resume, transcript, and, if specified, a writing sample. Applicants receive a confirmation email upon the successful submission of a complete application.
If selected as a finalist, individuals must provide contact information for two references or two letters of recommendation. For internships through external partnerships, written documentation of eligibility is required.
