The major purpose of this programme is to promote the reading culture and also encourage healthy interactiveness and intellectual competition amongst secondary school students in Nigeria and across Africa.

Eligibility for the UBA National Essay Competition 2021
- Interested participant must be a secondary school student
- The essay to be submitted must be handwritten. Maximum word count stands at 750 words
- Participants must submit a passport photograph
- Must submit a copy of a birth certificate, National ID or passport
Selection Procedure for the UBA National Essay Competition 2021
- A highly respected panel of judges made up of professors from reputable Nigerian Universities will review all the submissions received for the competitions.
- A shortlist of 12 successful entries will then be released for further assessment
- Right after, the 12 finalists will be put through a second round of the competition which will involve writing a supervised essay from which three best essays will be selected as the overall winners.
Awards & Prizes for the UBA National Essay Competition 2021
- First Prize: N3 million educational grant,
- Second Prize: N2.5 million educational grant,
- Third Prize: N2 million educational grants
all to any African University of their choice.
How to Apply for the UBA National Essay Competition 2021
- Applicant must submit their completed contact information (Name, Age, School, Address of school, Telephone Number, Residential Address and Email Address).
- Applicants must attach photocopies of their original birth certificates or international passport data page.
