Co-sponsored by CARFMS, LERRN, and the Borderless Higher Education for Refugees (BHER), this prestigious award aims to recognize exceptional scholarship from students and early-career researchers who have personally experienced forced displacement.

By fostering inclusivity and equity in refugee research, the award seeks to amplify the voices of those directly affected by forced migration.

Award Categories

  • Undergraduate students
  • Graduate and/or law students
  • Early-career researchers (within six years of completing their highest degree)


  • $500 prize for the winning research paper in each category.
  • Certificate signed by CARFMS, LERRN, and BHER.
  • Opportunity to present the paper at a CARFMS conference or virtual event.

Submission Guidelines:

  • Deadline: June 30, 2024.
  • Submit online: Online Application Form
  • Papers accepted in English or French.
  • Length: Not exceeding 7,500 words (12-point font, double-spaced).
  • Include a 150-word abstract and a 150-word biography with a description of lived experience of forced migration.
  • Follow appropriate referencing conventions (e.g., APA, Chicago).

Evaluation Process:

Anonymous review by a committee comprising members from CARFMS, a community research partner with lived experience (recommended by LERRN), representatives from LERRN and BHER.
