FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme 2024–2025
The FAO–Hungarian Government Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2023–24 offers an excellent opportunity for residents of eligible countries to pursue their higher education in Budapest, Hungary.

- Courses will be offered based on reaching the minimum number of students.
Scholarship Benefits:
- Application and tuition fees throughout the study period, including basic books and notes.
- Dormitory accommodation.
- Subsistence costs.
- Health insurance.
All costs are generously financed by the Hungarian Government, following the 2007 Agreement between FAO and Hungary.
It’s important to note that the scholarship exclusively covers the costs for students, and family members are not supported within this program.
List of Eligible Countries:
Residents (who must be nationals) of the following countries are eligible to apply: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Angola, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Chad, Congo, Egypt, Ethiopia, Gambia, Georgia, Ghana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Lebanon, North Macedonia, Madagascar, Mali, Myanmar, Republic of Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Namibia, Nigeria, North Korea, State of Palestine, the Philippines, Republic of Cabo Verde, Serbia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen.
(References to Kosovo shall be understood in the context of Security Council Resolution 1244, 1999.)
Application and Selection Process:
The selection process for scholarships beginning in September 2024 involves two phases:
Phase 1:
- FAO will pre-screen candidates and submit applications to the Ministry of Agriculture of Hungary.
- The Ministry will forward applications to the chosen University by the applicants.
- Only complete dossiers will be considered, and files without names will not be processed.
Phase 2:
- Selected candidates may undergo a written or oral English examination as part of the admission procedure.
- The participating University will conduct a further selection process and notify successful candidates.
- Student selection is the sole responsibility of the Universities without FAO involvement.
- The Ministry will also notify selected students.
Selection Criteria:
Candidates will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Citizenship and residency of one of the eligible countries.
- Excellent school achievements.
- English language proficiency (for courses taught in English).
- Motivation.
- Good health.
- Age (candidates under 30 are preferred).
