The PTDF Scholarships scheme is open to qualified international and local students for M.Sc. and PhD courses. The PTDF provides scholarships for studies in the United Kingdom, Germany, Brazil, France (via Campus France), top institutions in the United States of America, Federal Universities and Centres of Excellence in Nigeria.
The Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) is a governmental agency under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources, created by law to develop and promote petroleum technology and meet the oil and gas industry’s human resource demands via research and training of Nigerians.
The scheme was created to give candidates the chance to benefit from a diverse body of knowledge and the resources provided by world-class universities worldwide. Candidates are to apply to specialized programmes at partner institutions through PTDF. The prize comprises the supply of airplane tickets, health insurance, tuition and bench fees (where applicable), and allowances to cover the costs of housing and living expenses.
PTDF Scholarships Guides
PTDF scholarships are highly competitive, and only candidates who are outstanding across the board are selected.
Based on the submitted qualifications, the top applicants for each category from each state will be invited for an interview, where a selection committee will be constituted to assess applications using the following criteria:
- Academic merit, as evidenced by the quality of degrees, full academic transcripts and other professional qualifications acquired
- Relevant publications to be referenced by the applicant (PhD applicants only)
- Membership in professional bodies
- The viability of the study/research plan.
Requirement

- A minimum of a Second Class Upper (2.1) qualification in their first degree or a Second Class Lower (2.2) qualification combined with relevant industry experience
- Must have completed the National Youth Service requirement (NYSC).
- Computer literacy is required.
- 5 O/level credits are required, including English Language and Mathematics.
- Statement of purpose (maximum 500 words) stating the reason(s) for the proposed study’s reason, industry relevance, and expected impact on national development.
Applicants must have a National Identity Number (NIN). Applicants should remember that they will need to verify their NIN before proceeding with the application (NIMC verification charges apply).
ALSO, MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.
PhD
- Must have completed the National Youth Service requirement (NYSC)
- Computer literacy is required.
- A first-degree certificate with a minimum grade of Second Class Lower (2.2) and an excellent second-degree certificate
- A research proposal relevant to the oil and gas industry (no more than five pages) that includes the following items: Topic, introduction, goal, methodology, and data collection mode
- All lecturers must present a letter from their Vice Chancellor confirming that they do not hold any other scholarships.

- Applicants are advised to scan and attach the following documents to their online application forms:
- First Degree Certificate or Result Statement
- Certificate of Discharge from NYSC
- WAEC/GCE/SSCE/NECO results and PINs on application forms to allow PTDF to view O’level results on the appropriate website.
- Photograph of a Recent Passport
- Letter of Identification for Local Government
- Certificate of Master’s Degree (PhD applicants only)
- Evidence of professional association membership
Candidates who pass the first round of screening will be asked to submit their transcripts; all applicants are advised to prepare their transcripts for submission before such a request.

All applicants can submit their application forms and supporting documents online using an ATM (Interswitch, Master, or Visa) card or by purchasing a scratch card from designated First Bank of Nigeria Plc main branches in all 36 states and the FCT for a non-refundable sum of N1,000 (One Thousand Naira Only). On or before the deadline, instructions on accessing the form online are clearly stated on the backside of the cards.

Shortlisted candidates for MSc students will take a computer-based test, while PhD candidates must complete an oral interview.
