Scholarship Details of 2022 University of Warwick MIBTP PhD Scholarships:
The MIBTP has an ambitious vision to deliver innovative, world-class research across the Life Sciences to boost the growing Bioeconomy in the Midlands and across the UK.
PhD Studentship projects are focused on vital research areas such as Sustainable Agriculture and Food, Understanding the Rules of Life, Renewable Resources and Clean Growth and Integrated Understanding of Health, and the use of interdisciplinary and quantitative approaches to biology.
Scholarship Requirements for 2022 University of Warwick MIBTP PhD Scholarships:
- Students from a wide diversity of academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
- Those with creative drive in both theoretical disciplines (for example, maths, computer science, statistics) as well as an experimental science (for example, biology, biomedicine, chemistry, biotechnology).
- Those who have a 1st or a 2.1 undergraduate degree in a relevant field are eligible.
- Evidence of quantitative training is required. For example, AS or A level Maths, IB Standard or Higher Maths, or university level maths/statistics courses.
- Those who have a 2.2 and an additional Master’s degree in a relevant field may be eligible.
- Those who have a 2.2 and at least three years of post-graduate experience in a relevant field may be eligible.
- Those with degrees abroad (perhaps as well as postgraduate experience) may be eligible if their qualifications are deemed equivalent to any of the above
- Candidates are advised to check the eligibility of each university participating in the programme.
Scholarship Duration and Reward
The Scholarship covers;
- tuition fees (cost of UK fee rate),
- a tax-free annual stipend,
- a travel allowance in year 1,
- a travel/conference budget,
- a generous consumables budget and
- use of a MacBook Pro for the duration of the programme.

- Candidates applying to the MIBTP will be shortlisted using these criteria.
- Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview, during which their academic aptitude, motivation for research, communication ability and interest in quantitative, interdisciplinary bioscience will be assessed. Each candidate will also be scored on a set of competency-based questions asked at an interview.
